The Community aims to promote Abanilla and Ulea as religious tourism destinations (19/03/2016)

The Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment is working with the municipalities of Abanilla and Ulea and the brotherhoods of the Cross of these areas to highlight them in the circuits of religious tourism in the region.

The first of the meetings held this week at the Institute of Tourism to address possible actions to spread the two destinations as stages of the 'Road Lignum Crucis', the sacred shrines have both locations ..

This itinerary of 118 kilometers is included in the ways of the Cross;

begins in Granja de Rocamora (Alicante), passes through Abanilla and Ulea and ends in Caravaca.

As he explained by the director of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, and the layout of the aforementioned itinerary is analyzed to enhance its appeal.

Specifically, the firm is evaluating the state of the road and signaling to determine possible actions and improvements.

Fernandez-Delgado announced that the Tourism Institute will strengthen the dissemination of these destinations and included in a new brochure specialized tourism.

This initiative is included in the master plan of the Way of the Cross, launched by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the City of Caravaca, the brotherhood of Vera Cruz and private entities.

The aim of this plan is to position the region as a tourism destination religious reference in Europe.
