The Community invests 1.3 million for the Ulea plant to recover 1,400 tons of reusable material (29/12/2017)

Celdrán remembers that within the strategy of Circular Economy "we will achieve that 50 percent of the materials of domestic and commercial waste are reusable in 2020"

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, visited this morning the improvement works of the urban solid waste treatment plant of Ulea, in which 1.3 million euros are invested, and that will allow to recover for its reuse 1,400 tons of additional material per year.

This new action, which has a deadline of six months and will be completed in May 2018, will serve to adapt and adapt the operations of classification of non-biodegradable recyclable waste and implement measures to achieve an individualized monitoring of the efficiencies of the plant to submit all the waste to recovery operations and that can return to the productive system as 'raw material'.

"We continue to move forward so that the future Regional Circular Economy Strategy guarantees that before 2020, a minimum of 50 percent by weight of domestic and commercial waste is destined for reuse and recycling, that is, we want half of the garbage that it is deposited in the green containers, it is recovered to give it a new life, it is again raw material to produce products, "said Celdrán.

This action in the plant of Ulea is part of the Waste Plan of the Region of Murcia 2016-2020 which will be integrated into the Circular Economy Strategy, within the section on Investments for the adaptation of classification operations in treatment of fraction remaining for the management of domestic and commercial waste.

This new investment is added to those made in 2010 and 2011 of the compost refinery, in order to have a larger covered area for the preparation of refined compost;

and the one executed in 2014 and 2016 for the construction of the new waste treatment plant equipped with two automatic lines of fraction remaining of 35 tons / hour plus 35 tons / hour and light packaging.

The Minister of Environment said that "in short, we continue to make progress in improving the environment and that the production system is more sustainable, recycling more and reducing the amount of waste that eventually ends up in landfills, which must be reduced to 10%. percent in 2030. "

The regional government created a steering committee of the Circular Economy Strategy of the Region of Murcia that seeks to move from one way to produce linear design, produce, consume and throw to another as is the circular design to not pull, produce sustainably, consume and reuse.

The strategy has as its principles to move to a system based on the '9R': Rethink, redesign, remanufacture, repair, redistribute, reduce, reuse, recycle and recover energy.

Expansion of Ulea urban solid waste plant

The new investment in Ulea urban solid waste treatment plant allows to maintain the current treatment capacity of 70 tons / hour, during the maintenance work and technical stops of the bridge crane.

This increase in plant availability also allows the treatment of waste entering the plant during two possible annual stops for the maintenance of the overhead crane;

reduce 18 percent due to moisture loss from the composting process, achieving a better quality compost;

and the recovery of plastic FILM (low density polyethylene) equivalent to 15,000 kilograms per year.

In addition, it improves the quality control of the recovered products, which in 2016 was 29,013 tons, and will allow the implementation of environmental education visits to the facility without affecting the production of the plant.
